Nagoya Festival

A Vibrant Autumn Celebration of History and Culture

The Nagoya Festival is one of the city’s signature autumn events, featuring the spectacular “Heroes Parade,” traditional performances, live entertainment, and food stalls across central Nagoya. Visitors can watch the legendary trio—Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu—march through the city in full armor, while enjoying a festive atmosphere filled with music, culture, and local flavors.

A Festival Rooted in History and Tradition

First held in 1955 as a large-scale civic celebration, the Nagoya Festival has grown into one of the region’s biggest cultural events. Its highlight is the Heroes Parade, where performers dressed as the famous feudal lords—Oda, Toyotomi, and Tokugawa—recreate historic scenes as they walk through the streets. Accompanied by warriors, noble ladies, and attendants in elaborate costumes, the parade offers a powerful glimpse into the dramatic history that shaped Nagoya.

Highlights and Festival Experiences

Beyond the Heroes Parade, the festival features attractions spread around Nagoya Castle, Sakae, and Oasis 21. Visitors can enjoy traditional performing arts, music stages, food markets, workshops, and family-friendly activities. Strolling through the city allows you to encounter a variety of events happening simultaneously, making it an ideal way to experience Nagoya’s vibrant culture and festive energy.
